Warmer first spring months, ticks become active earlier!
After the dark, wet, chilly winter months, we are eager to enjoy the first spring sunshine. The website tekenradar.nl warns that ticks are emerging from hibernation earlier because the first months of the year have been warmer than normal.
First reports already coming in
Dozens of reports of tick bites and infections with Lyme disease have already been received. Figures from the RIVM show that people suffer 1.5 million tick bites every year. Not every tick is infected. Approximately 27,000 people contract Lyme disease, of whom 1,000 to 1,500 will experience long-term symptoms.
